James E. Powell, President of TDG, is an experienced trainer, consultant, author and speaker on the subject of hazardous materials. A former industry executive with 23 years of experience in the airline, trucking and forwarding business, TDG has trained thousands of people from hundreds of different companies in international shipping regulations.
Jim started training in hazardous materials regulations in the late 1970's when he managed airline operations for a charter airline in the northeast, and then in the early 1980's Jim was Director of Cargo for Air Polynesia, a 121 Cargo Airline in Hawaii, owned by DHL Corporation. In that position, Jim created a hazardous materials training program, which gained FAA approval, and initially taught the courses and trained the instructors.
He has written articles on hazardous materials shipping that have been published in the Journal of Commerce, as well as contributed to numerous articles in transportation trade publications such as Traffic World and Air Cargo World among others.
TDG is endorsed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) which represents over 95 percent of the worlds airlines, as an authorized training school for their airlines members, agents, and shippers.
Jim Powell is involved with penalty mitigation work in helping to reduce fines for clients facing penalties from the DOT through consulting and training programs. He has worked with Coudert Brothers law firm of New York on a penalty case involving a Hong Kong client and has worked with legal counsel of major shippers and forwarders facing DOT penalty actions.
